Market stall success for West Suffolk Hospital

October 3, 2001

The stall on Bury market ran by staff from the West Suffolk Hospital on Wednesday 26th September to encourage people to join the NHS has been hailed as a great success.

Staff from various departments at the hospital gave out information and advice to the public about the wide range of jobs available in the NHS. Their aim was to inform people about the many different roles in healthcare and to promote working in the NHS as a rewarding and worthwhile career.

Over sixty members of the public said they were interested in working for the Trust.  Staff took their names and addresses and they will be sent application forms and details of vacancies.  Six qualified nurses who have taken a career break said that they would now like to return to work, as did a qualified pharmacy technician and radiographer.

“The response from the public on the day was brilliant,” said Jan Bloomfield, Director of Personnel and Corporate Resoures. “Our staff manning the stall were kept very busy, and I want to thank all of them for their hard work.”

“They were inundated with requests for information about positions available within the Trust, which shows the continued popularity of working for the NHS and helping to care for others.  It is especially pleasing to hear from qualified staff such as nurses and radiographers who are now looking to return to work.  All of the enquiries will be properly followed up by our staff, and I am confident that we will successfully fill a number of vacancies as a result of the market stall.”

Due to the success of the market stall initiative, another one is planned for next Spring.
