Opening of Maternity Unit sitting room
(Media invitation)

30 April 2001

Date:  Tuesday 8th May
Venue: Ward F11, West Suffolk Hospital
Time:  2pm

Event:

The sitting room of the Maternity Unit at the West Suffolk Hospital has recently been completely refurbished, and will be officially reopened on Tuesday 8th May.

Mrs Jean Baird, the ex-Head of Midwifery, will reopen the room in the presence of several new mothers and their very young babies.  The sitting room has been redecorated and had the floor replaced, new leather armchairs installed, and a new kitchen area built which includes an ice machine.  The room is used by Maternity Unit patients and their relatives and friends.

The refurbishment has cost around £7,000.  This money has come from a trust fund set up by midwives working on the unit.  Staff began fundraising for the MUM (Maternity Unit Money) fund in 1988.  Swimathons, raffles, a study day and donations from the public all helped to boost the fund.
