Senior staff go ‘back to the floor’

Media Invitation
Date: Thursday 11 July
Time: 12 noon

Chair of the West Suffolk Hospitals NHS Trust, Veronica Worrall, will be going back to the floor and spending time as a Ward Clerk on G4.

She will be joined by other members of the Trust Board who will be working on the ‘frontline’ of services, shadowing a regular employee to gain insight into their work.

The aim is to help directors understand the issues facing staff on a daily basis, and to experience at first hand life for workers at the forefront of caring for patients.

Veronica Worrall said: “It’s easy for people like me to become detached from what is happening at the sharp end of the NHS. This is an ideal opportunity for me to learn from staff and for me to show my enormous respect and gratitude for what they do.

“I will be meeting colleagues at the end of the day to discuss what we have learnt from the experience and how this may influence our future planning.

Among the other Board members taking part in the back to the floor initiative are:

John Cullum,

Non-executive Director will spend time with the housekeepers

Mary Jones

Non-executive Director will spend time in pathology

Colin Hilder

Non-executive Director will spend time in the Coronary Care Unit and X-Ray

Judith Lancaster

Non-executive Director will spend time in pharmacy

Jan Bloomfield
