Volunteering opportunities - accident and emergency

July 8th 2002

Volunteers are required between 12 noon and 7.00 pm to help support patients and relatives in the A/E Waiting areas to make their time as comfortable and stress free as possible.

Duties will include

  • Maintaining a tidy environment

  • Fetching drinks and magazines for patients

  • Relaying information about waiting times in conjunction with triage nurse

  • Run messages  (non-clinical) from patients to trained/medical staff

  • Encouraging child play for waiting siblings as appropriate

  • Providing teas and coffee for families in relatives room

  • Helping to give out sandwiches and drinks to identified patients

  • Running errands

  • Ensuring TV program is suitable

  • Changing videos in childrens area

The volunteer will have a host/hostess role within the department and will be well supported by the A/E nursing team.
