Senior biomedical scientist Chris Bird is retiring from the West Suffolk Hospitals NHS Trust after 39 years service. She is currently the longest serving member of staff at the hospital.  A presentation will be made on Friday 27th June, to which media are invited.

"I have very much enjoyed my career at West Suffolk Hospital, and will miss all the great friends I have made," said Chris. "However, Iım sure I will be back to visit, and I am looking forward to facing new challenges in my retirement.

"In September I will be part of a team going to Peru on a sponsored trek in aid of St Nicholası Hospice. We are going to trek to Machu Picchu, an ancient Inca city high in the Andes. Once I have retired I will need to get really fit for this tough trip.  It will certainly make a change from coming to work everyday!"

"We are going to miss Chris when she retires," said Yvonne Field, head biomedical scientist. "She has been a supportive and conscientious colleague, and we all wish her the very best for her retirement.ı

To sponsor Chris Bird on her Peruvian trek, please contact Sue Meader at St Nicholas Hospice (01284 766133).
