Non-executive director re-appointed at West Suffolk Hospital

June 15, 2004

The Secretary of State for Health, John Reid MP, has re-appointed John Cullum as a non-executive director of West Suffolk Hospitals NHS Trust.

Mr Cullum, who has served the Trust for the past three years, has been re-appointed for four years from 1 November 2004 until 31 October 2008.

Board Chairman Veronica Worrall said: “I am very pleased that John Cullum has been re-appointed to the Board.  Over the past few years he has made a valuable contribution to the work of the Trust, and his broad experience has provided the Board with valuable insight.  His commitment and enthusiasm has been an asset to the Trust, and I am sure that he will continue to work hard to improve our services in the future.”

Mr Cullum retired as Deputy Chief Constable of Suffolk Constabulary in 2000, and is currently on the Suffolk Area Board of the National Probation Service. With 40 years’ experience of working in public service, he has a solid understanding of the communities within Suffolk. In 1989 he was instrumental in raising over £10,000 for the West Suffolk Hospitals Scanner Appeal.

“I am pleased to have been given an opportunity to continue my work at the West Suffolk Hospital, which is such an essential part of our community,” said Mr Cullum. “It is a vital organisation with dedicated staff who care passionately about the service they provide, and I look forward to being able to continue to contribute to its future success. I am sure that my experience of identifying community needs, setting targets and monitoring performance will enable me to do so.”

As a non-executive director, Mr Cullum will receive a remuneration of £5,673pa. He has no declared political affiliations. He is a Member of the Suffolk Board of the National Probation Service, for which he is remunerated at £15.40 per hour.
