Opening of Multi Faith Room at West Suffolk Hospital

Time:              6.30pm

Date:               Wednesday 2nd June

Venue:             Chapel of the Good Samaritan, West Suffolk Hospital, Bury St Edmunds

A new Multi Faith room at the West Suffolk Hospital is being officially Dedicated on Wednesday, 2nd June. Media and the public are welcome to attend.

The Multi Faith room is attached to the Chapel of the Good Samaritan. It has been introduced so that members of all faiths or none have an area at the West Suffolk Hospital where they can pray, meditate or reflect.

The room contains no religious artefacts but boxes are available which contain books and artefacts for six of the major faiths: Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism.

At the Dedication, the Revd David Crawley, Manager of Chaplaincy & Pastoral Care Services at the West Suffolk Hospital, will welcome representatives from the six faiths who will each light a candle to mark the occasion.

“This Dedication represents a different and unusual opportunity for the West Suffolk Hospital,” said Revd Crawley. “I am pleased that we are able to provide this quiet area for people of all faiths to use. Today’s ceremony is a milestone in our continuing journey towards a greater understanding of people’s needs, whatever their background or tradition.”

“I want to express our deep gratitude to the Friends of West Suffolk Hospital whose generous funding has made this project possible,” said Veronica Worrall, Trust chairman.  “I would also like to acknowledge our sincerest thanks and appreciation to Suffolk Inter-Faith Resource (SIFRE) and its representatives for their invaluable contribution to the development of the Multi Faith Room.”
