World Radiography Day

1 November 2004

World Radiography Day will take place on November 8 and West Suffolk Hospital is taking the opportunity to look for new recruits.

The hospital's radiography department will be throwing open its doors on Saturday November 6 to anyone interested in pursuing a career with them.

Staff and students will be on hand to talk to anyone of any age who is interested in training in radiography from school leavers to mature students looking for a change in career or people returning to work after taking a career break.

Last year the open day resulted in four students joining the team and studying for a BSC hons degree.

Superintendant Radiographer Anna Lloyd has been a radiographer for eight years and a clinical teacher for three years. She said: "Radiographers produce high quality images that are used in diagnoses and the treatment of a variety of conditions. In essence, they provide the evidence with which consultants and GPs use to make a diagnosis.

"Radiography is a very diverse career and there are lots of different areas you can specialise in after qualification. There is a science element as well as a patient care element to this career.

"It would appeal to anyone with a caring nature and interest in science."

The open day takes place on Saturday, November 6, at West Suffolk Hospital's radiography department (follow the signs to x ray), from 10am to 1pm.

Note:

A photo opportunity is available at 11am on the day.
