Hospital Staff Take on the London Marathon

15 April 2005

Staff at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds will be running the London Marathon this weekend.

Urology Nurse Practitioner Jan Blofield and Consultant Geriatricians Dr Mike Troup and Dr John Greener will be pounding the streets of London on Sunday (April17).

For Jan this is the third time she has run the marathon and she has been training hard since she got her place in January.

In previous years she has raised £3,000 for the charity Debra, which funds research into the genetic skin blistering condition called Epidermolysis Bullosa, in memory of her niece who died of the condition just one month after she was born.

This year she is raising money for Macmillan Cancer Relief and hopes to collect £1,000 for the charity.

Jan, who lives in Bury St Edmunds with her partner and two children, said: "I loved running when I was at school and running the London Marathon was something I have always wanted to do.

"This is now the third year I have taken part and I cannot get enough of it."

Jan has been a nurse at West Suffolk Hospital for 22 years, having started her training in Bury.

Anyone who would like to sponsor Jan can contact her on 01284 702290.
