National Eczema Week 17th - 24th September 2005

14 September 2005

Next week is National Eczema Week, an annual health awareness campaign organised by the National Eczema Society to raise awareness of the condition that affects one in 12 adults and one-fifth of school-age children.

At West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds, the Dermatology Department is appealing for new members to join its Adults Eczema Support Group.

The support group, for those aged 16 and over, holds meetings several times a year at the Education Centre within the Hospital grounds on Thursdays from 7pm until 8.30pm. At these informal meetings those with eczema can share experiences and tips on managing the condition.

The department also has a very active Children’s Eczema Support group. The next meeting is scheduled for December and new members are always welcome.

To book a place with either support group please contact either Marie Retzback or Vicki Ayliffe Dermatology specialist nurses on 01284 712646 or write to the Dermatology Department West Suffolk Hospital Hardwick Lane Bury St Edmunds IP33 2QZ, enclosing a stamped addressed envelope.

Displays and information on eczema will be available in the hospital’s Outpatients Department during National Eczema Week. The theme this year is ‘Living with the enemy - eczema in the family.’

The National Eczema Society has launched a new guide entitled ‘Childhood Atopic Eczema - Your Questions Answered’. To obtain a copy or to join the National Eczema Society, please telephone their information line on 08702 413604 for free specialist advice on eczema and its management.
