GNVQ student to spend day in theatres
30 May 2000
Bryony Salmon has won the opportunity to spend a day in the operating theatres to find out more about the role of operating department practitioners, ODPs, at the West Suffolk Hospital.
Stewart Shaw, Training and Development Co-ordinator for Operating Department Practice, has organised a full day for Bryony which starts bright and early on Thursday 1 June with the preparation of the theatre for Mr Keeling, a Consultant General Surgeon.
Bryony will accompany patients to the general anaesthesia room, observe an operation and see the patient through into recovery.
Bryony is taking a GNVQ course in Health and Social Care and recently attended a Career Awareness Day at the Drummond Centre. Visitors were offered a chance to win a day in an operating theatre to see at first hand the role of the ODP. Bryony picked out the lucky raffle ticket.
