GIVE ME 5 Campaign
June 2001
The British Dietetic Association's GIVE ME 5 campaign is now entering its fourth year and will run through the month of June.
GIVE Me 5 promotes the positive health message of the benefits of eating more fruits and vegetables with the overall theme of 'Enjoy 5 or more portions of fruit and vegetables each day'.
GIVE ME 5 is a very practical campaign which aims to demonstrate the different types of fruit and vegetables that count towards the 5 a day and what is meant by a 'portion'.
The main messages are:
-
Eating at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day can help you keep you healthy.
-
Eating at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day may help to reduce the risk of diseases such as heart disease and cancers.
-
Fresh, frozen, dried canned and juiced fruit and vegetables all count as a portion.
-
Eating more fruit and vegetables can be convenient, tasty, simple and affordable.
-
Choose a variety of fruits and vegetables as part of the five a day.
