Join the Wrap and Raise Money for Eczema Sufferers12 October 2000 The Dermatology Department at the West Suffolk Hospital is inviting people to wrap up and raise money for the National Eczema Society on Friday 20 October 2000. Dermatology Nurse Specialist Marie Retzback will be in the main foyer of the hospital ready to wrap people in bandages and help raise money. “By joining the sponsored wrap people can have fun and make a positive difference to someone's life”, said Mrs Retzback. “The wrap idea forthe fundraising comes from the new treatment technique which is particularly useful for children with eczema, called wet wrapping”, she explained. Wet wrapping stops itching, reduces inflammation and promotes faster skin healing. It involves applying large amounts of moisturising cream to the skin which is then enclosed in two layers of light gauze. The first layer is applied wet to cool the skin and encourage the moisturiser to be absorbed more deeply. Anyone interested in taking part or sponsoring a volunteer can contact the Dermatology Department on 01284 712646 for a sponsorship form and further information. The event is sponsored by SSL International and all funds raised by the wrap will help the National Eczema Society to do more for people with eczema There will be an information stand in the hospital foyer which aims to rise awareness of the condition Editor’s notes A young eczema suffer, who will be celebrating his first birthday on 20 October, will be on the stand at 10.30am helping to demonstrate wet wrapping in action and encouraging support for the event.
