Search Tips:
Simple search:
This carries out a search on all fields in the catalogue. Note that a 'string' search is carried out, i.e. the search looks for continuous character strings in the database irrespective of whether they form whole words or not.
Advanced search:
This allows you to carry out a targeted search by allowing search criteria to be specified in one or more fields. For example, you can select all catalogue entries in which the Title of the entry contains 'Nursing' and the Author of the entry contains the name 'Jones'.
Order by (author or entry date):
The search results can be ordered alphabetically according to the author field or according to the 'entry date', i.e. the dates that the items were added to the catalogue. The latter case allows you to more easily view the most recent items added to the catalogue.
Search type (normal, stem or string):
A 'normal' search finds database entries containing whole words or phrases in the 'title', 'author', 'subject' and 'publisher' fields.
A 'stem' search finds database entries containing words with the same stem, e.g. enter 'nurs' to find all entries containing 'nurse', 'nursing' etc.
A 'string' search looks for continuous character strings in the database irrespective of whether they form whole words or not.
Year of publication:
Enter a year, e.g. 1999, to restrict the search to items published in that year. (Note: a full year must be entered, e.g. '199' will not return any results.)
Accession numbers:
A full 6-digit accession number must be entered otherwise no results will be returned.
