The West Suffolk Hospital earns itself a place in the record books on Friday 25th April when it becomes the first NHS Trust in the UK to receive the Department of Trade and Industry’s Work-Life Balance Standard. Andrew Foster, Director of Human Resources for the NHS, will present the certificate to Veronica Worrall, Trust chairman, on Friday 25th April. Media are welcome to attend.
The Trust is committed to improving the quality of working lives for all its employees. As part of the Trust’s Improving Working Lives (IWL) strategy, policies and procedures have been developed to support employees in achieving a better work-life balance. Initiatives taken by the Trust include:
· Flexible working hours
· Personal training and development programmes
· A Career Break scheme
· A future on-site nursery
· Childcare vouchers
These have been independently assessed by the Government’s quality assurance assessors, who were sufficiently impressed to make the West Suffolk Hospital the first NHS Trust in the country to be granted the Work-Life Balance Standard.
“This is excellent news for the Trust and shows that our sustained investment in our staff is receiving national recognition,” said Jan Bloomfield, Director of Personnel and Communications. “We are also celebrating a second success – achievement of Improving Working Lives Practice Accreditation. This is especially welcome as no Trust can be given three star status without this accreditation.”
