Health and Safety evening courses at West Suffolk Hospital

West Suffolk Hospital is opening its new Education Centre to members of the public in support of Adult Learners’ Week from 10 to 16 May.
Three special courses, covering different aspects of health and safety each evening, will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during Adult Learners’ Week. Each course will run for two hours from 5.30 to 7.30pm and are open to all on a first-come, first served basis, with room for up to 50 people on each course.
On Tuesday 13 May, the first course will cover “Basic Life Support and First Aid”. This will be a practical, interactive session with instruction in basic life support and first aid techniques from Liz Whittaker, Resuscitation Trainer at West Suffolk Hospital and Bury St Edmunds’ ‘Heartstart’ co-ordinator. Assisting Liz will be Steve Murrow, a paramedic with the East Anglian Ambulance Trust, who is also a First Aid trainer.
Denise Needle, a Suzy Lampugh Safety Trainer as well as being Workforce Development Manager at West Suffolk Hospital, will be leading a session to raise awareness of ‘Personal Safety Techniques’.
The final session on Thursday covers safety at work under the title, ‘Being aware, being safe at work’. The safety at work course will be led by Val Dutton, West Suffolk Hospital’s Risk Manager.
