New Medical Director for West Suffolk Hospital
16 October 2003
West Suffolk Hospitals NHS Trust in Bury St Edmunds has appointed a new Medical Director.
Dr Roy Bannon was appointed to the post of Medical Director on 1st October. He has worked for the Trust as a Consultant Radiologist since 1986. He replaces Dr Kwee Matheson, who recently retired.
Dr Bannon trained in radiology at Middlesex Hospital while he was in the Royal Air Force. Before joining West Suffolk Hospital, he worked at a RAF hospital in Ely – now closed – and was also attached to Addenbrooke’s in Cambridge.
“I am pleased to have been appointed as Medical Director at West Suffolk Hospital at an eventful time for the Trust,” said Dr Bannon. “My first priority is to consolidate and build upon what my predecessor, Kwee Matheson, has already achieved.
“The next few years will involve huge changes for acute hospitals throughout the country. The links between the different sectors of the health system, such as hospitals and GP surgeries, will grow closer as co-operation and partnership working improves.
“More health care will take place in the community than does at present, as work currently undertaken by hospital doctors is done instead by other professionals such as community nurses. To make this happen, we have a huge agenda in terms of training and education, among other things. My role as Medical Director is to help facilitate these important changes.”
