West Suffolk Hospital welcomes planning decision

6 February, 2003

Managers at West Suffolk Hospitals NHS Trust welcomed today’s decision by St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s Planning Committee to give the go-ahead to plans to build an extra 250 car parking spaces at the Hospital.

“We are delighted that the Planning Committee has given permission for us to build the extra 250 spaces,” said Steve Moore, Director of Estates.

“The Trust is committed to providing parking spaces for patients and staff, and we recognise that finding a space can be difficult at certain times of the day.

We are constantly looking at ways to alleviate the problem of having too many cars on site. The extra spaces are part of the Trust’s efforts to find a solution to the parking issue, and should make a difference to the problem of parking in neighbouring roads.

“However, this issue is not going to disappear and we are still not going to be in the position of guaranteeing a parking space at peak times to everyone who wants one.  I would urge people to take the environmentally friendly option of using public transport whenever possible, and walking and cycling if weather and distances allow.

“The Trust will continue to work with St Edmundsbury District Council to look at ways to solve the long-term parking problem.”
