Sponsored Walk to Raise Funds for Hospital's Early Pregnancy Unit
10 May 2005
A sponsored walk will take place at Nowton Park on May 22 to raise funds for West Suffolk Hospital’s early pregnancy unit.
Organised by the hospital’s women and child health team, the five-mile walk aims to raise money for the new early pregnancy unit¹s Juno Fund. Juno was the Roman goddess of women, marriage and childbirth.
The early pregnancy unit will care for women who are experiencing problems in early pregnancy. The Juno Fund will provide equipment for the hospital’s early pregnancy unit including a special examination couch.
Consultant Obstetrician Michelle Judd said: "This will be a great family morning out and a chance to raise money for a very good cause.
"Ten to fifteen per cent of all clinically recognised pregnancies end in miscarriage. The problems associated with miscarriage are one of the commonest reasons for women to see their GP and be admitted as an emergency to hospital.
The early pregnancy unit cares for women who are having or have had a miscarriage.
"Staff from the women and child health team will be taking part in the walk and we hope members of the public will come along too. If we had just 100 people taking part who raised £10 each then that is £1,000 for our fund."
Sponsor forms are available from Heather Skayman on 01284 713143 or the hospital’s antenatal clinic and maternity unit. Participants will meet in the car park of Nowton Park to commence the walk at 10am.
