Going homeThis is a flexible arrangement and will depend on the health of you and your baby. It is preferred by the ward if you make arrangements to go home in the afternoon. This allows for any unforeseen delays. REMEMBER TO ORGANISE A SAFE JOURNEY HOME FOR YOUR NEW BABY The law states that any child under the age of 14 years must be suitably restrained where a restraint is available and that no child under the age of three years can be carried in the front seat of a car unless in an appropriate restraint. Please have the seat fitted in your car before collecting your baby. Staff are not permitted to carry babies in car seats. Patient satisfactionA questionnaire may be given to mothers by their community midwife. Your comments help us to assess whether or not we give the care you wish to receive. Please complete and return to the Clinical Audit Dept in the envelope provided. Registration of birthYou will be given a leaflet prior to leaving the hospital explaining how to register your baby's birth. Registrars' details are as follows:
Community midwifePlease inform the ream midwife if you are planning to go anywhere other than your own home, so that your community midwife can be told. If a community midwife has not visited you by 4pm the following day, please contact the West Suffolk Hospital team on their direct line. When you get home from hospital with your baby, your community midwife will visit you until your baby is 10 days old. If necessary she may visit for longer, up to 28 days. Your midwife will then transfer the care of you and your baby to your health visitor.
