WEST SUFFOLK VOCATIONAL TRAINING SCHEME
Programme August 2004 – January 2005
Please note new arrangements for trainees in hospital posts
Trainees in hospital posts should have fifteen days VTS study leave per year, i.e. 7 or 8 days per six month appointment. Instead of four study days every six months for two groups, in this programme there will be eight meetings, six of which will held at Thurston Grange, mostly on clinical topics, which hospital SHOs are particularly invited to attend. Where there are two or more VTS SHOs on a firm, it won’t be possible for all to take study leave on the same day, so you should:
· Liaise with colleagues early to plan your dates.
· Plan to take some alternative days to make up your quota of study days
VTS study days provide an opportunity to visit the training practice in the morning, and join the VTS half day release for lunch and group work in the afternoon. VTS SHOs are most welcome to take part in any of the Wednesday afternoon sessions. So, of you can’t get leave or are unable for any other reason to make it to one of the Thurston days, please book an alternative Wednesday, arrange to go to your training practice in the morning and join us in the afternoon wherever we are for the VTS meeting.
This new arrangement should allow more flexibility in their choice of VTS sessions and make it easier for everyone to take advantage of their full study leave allowance
The Clinical Topic meetings at the Grange Hotel begin at 2.00pm unless otherwise indicated. A buffet lunch is available from 1pm.
Study days should be booked well in advance so that locums, cover etc can be arranged.
Private study days, spent in the practice and an outpatient clinic, or for any other educationally valid activity can still be taken by agreement with GP educational supervisor, consultant and course organiser.
SHOS ARE ALSO WELCOME TO JOIN ANY OTHER VTS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AT 2pm IN EDUCATION CENTRE, WORK PERMITTING – OR JUST COME DOWN FOR TEA AND A CHAT AT 3.30PM.
Trainer business and education/workshop meetings will run from 14:00hrs until approximately 15:30hrs, and the venue will be the same as the trainee session unless otherwise stated.
