Chris Bown
Chief Executive
Prior to his appointment in September 2004, Chris Bown worked at Birmingham Children’s Hospital NHS Trust where he was Director of Operations. Chris has Board level experience in the management and development of Clinical Services, Facilities and Estates, Business, Strategic and Capital Planning, Commissioning and Human Resource Management. Chris is a member of the Institute of Healthcare Management and has a particular interest in the development of clinicians in management roles.

Roy Bannon Medical Director
Roy Bannon has been a Consultant Radiologist at the Trust from 1986 and formally Clinical Director of Support Service. He is responsible for Medical issues and Governance.

Linda Potter Director of Finance
Linda Potter is responsible for all issues relating to finance within the Trust, including Charitable Funds together with Purchasing and Information Management Technology. Since joining the NHS in 1986 Linda has worked in acute, community, mental health and primary care organisations, mainly in the finance. She also takes an active part in the Healthcare Financial Management Association and is vice chairman of the local branch.

Jan Bloomfield Director of Personnel & Communications
Jan Bloomfield is responsible for the provision of the personnel service to the Trust. She acts as Company Secretary, manages communications, public relations, education and training and occupational health. Jan joined the NHS in 1981 and has held numerous posts in personnel within the Health Service and came to West Suffolk in 1991 from University College Hospital, London.
Special interests - employee relations, medical staff and organisation development.

Nichole Day Director of Nursing and Service Improvement
Nichole Day is the Trust Board Executive Director with overall responsibility for the professional leadership and strategic direction of nursing within the organisation. She is also responsible for quality, the complaints process and Patient’s Charter monitoring and represents the Trust at the East Norfolk and Suffolk Education Training Consortia.
Special interests: Education and training (Vice Chair of East Norfolk and Suffolk Education and Training Consortium), quality of clinical services, clinical governance, and practice development.

Gwen Nuttall Director of Operations
Gwen Nuttall joined the Trust as Director of Operations from Barts and the London NHS Trust, where she was General Manager, Surgery and Anaesthetics. In this role she was responsible for planning and implementing the delivery of General Surgery, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Urology, Plastic Surgery, Rheumatology, Anaesthetics, Critical Care and Pain Services, with a budget of £52 million and 900 staff.
Previously, Gwen was project manager for the successful transfer of the £8 million burns and plastic surgery service from Queen Mary’s Roehampton to the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. More recently she has been lead manager for the transfer of elective surgical services between the Royal London and St Bartholomew’s Hospital and the transfer of vascular services from Newham Hospital to the Royal London.
Gwen has in-depth experience in the production and implementation of strategic business plans for the development of clinical services and achieving cost improvement programmes.

David Arr Chairman
David Arr was appointed Chairman for a four year term of office commencing 1st August 2005.
He is an international manager with wide commercial experience, working at the board level across several industries. He has previously worked for Barclays Bank plc, and has been a Director at both Hambros Bank plc and PricewaterhouseCoopers. He is Managing Director of a Strategic Planning Consultancy.
He is married with two grown up children and lives near Stansted, Essex. His recreational interests include travel, walking, music, and is a trustee of two local churches.

Mrs Mary Jones Non-executive Director
Mary Jones is an independent training consultant and a supervisor and children’s councillor with Ipswich CRUSE. Mary has a nursing background with experience in delivering health care in hospital and community settings. Appointed 1st November 1998 for a term of 4 years.
Special interests – Complaints, Patients Charter, quality, consumerism, Medicine and Elderly Services, Quality Steering Group.

John Cullum
Non-executive Director
John Cullum is currently a member of the Suffolk Area Board for the National Probation Service. John was Deputy Chief Constable of Suffolk until his recent retirement and has 36 years’ experience of working in the public service. He has been a member of the Suffolk Drugs Action Team and the Suffolk Emergency Services Co-ordinating Committee. Appointed 1st April 2001 for a term of 3 years.

Professor Peter Richards
Non-executive Director
Peter Richards is currently President of Hughes Hall in the University of Cambridge and deputy chairman of the Professional Conduct Committee of the General Medical Council. He has considerable NHS experience, having spent his working life as a hospital doctor with a special interest in clinical medical education. Appointed 1st April 2001 for a term of 3 years.

Jane Golding is currently Proposition Development Manager for Norwich Union. A Chartered Accountant, Jane is an experienced financial manager who has worked in a variety of industry sectors for both small and large organisations. Appointed 1st April 2005 for a term of 4 years.

James Greenwood

Jim Greenwood forged his career in the Food Industry. For the last 15 years he was a director of a large Food Processing Company supplying major supermarkets and manufacturers.
He was appointed on the 1st January 2005 for a period of 4 years.
