West Suffolk Hospital appoints new consultants 17 December, 2002 West Suffolk Hospitals NHS Trust has appointed two new consultants. Dr Per Johansen starts work as a consultant rheumatologist on 1 January, and Dr Cynthia Beatty joins as a consultant haematologist on 1 April. Tackling depression in older people March 4th 2002 An 18 month, ground breaking study, which aims to improve patients psychological wellbeing and quality of life, has started on the medical wards at the West Suffolk Hospital. Fast-track hip ops bring improved patient care March 4th 2002 Following a successful pilot study, the West Suffolk Hospitals NHS Trust is introducing fast-track hip replacement operations. In 1999 the average length of stay following a hip replacement was 13 days. The aim is to improve the service so that fast-track patients can be discharged six days after their operation. Sister Donna Taylor is leading the project. New defibrillators help to save lives February 26th 2002 Nurses at the West Suffolk Hospital NHS Trust are now able to give electric shocks to cardiac arrest patients (a process known as defibrillation ) in the absence of a doctor, thanks to the Trust investing £50,000 in 7 new Zoll defibrillators. Help is at hand for sufferers of vulval pain February 11th, 2002 Although it is not often talked about, vulval pain is a common problem affecting the lives of many women. To support people suffering from this painful condition, which is often under-recognised or misdiagnosed, a workshop will take place in Ipswich on Saturday 23rd February from 11am-3pm. Heather and Thelma, the PALS Officers, will be on hand to talk about the service and Jo, the PALS Technical Support Officer, will be demonstrating the website and will have examples of the Trust's information sheets that she is helping to produce. |
